A well-known national animal sanctuary organization wanted a humane investment portfolio screened for specific criteria.  Aperio built a custom portfolio to match the society’s seven criteria, but with low tracking error to the Russell 1000.

A national animal sanctuary organization wanted a humane investment option for their employees' retirement plan, but could not find a provider that could match their seven precisely defined screening criteria.

Aperio solution

Aperio built a custom portfolio to match the organization's seven criteria, but with low tracking error to the Russell 1000.  Aperio used existing animal testing research and supplemented the data with custom work from an outside research provider. Aperio was able to establish screens on all seven unique dimensions and create a custom Humane 1000 portfolio to track the Russell 1000.

Impact

The organization achieved a portfolio that aligned precisely with their values. Despite the unique screens, the portfolio had a tracking error of only 0.65% to the Russell 1000. Portfolio was implemented at fees that were significantly lower than the costs of active managers.
